At Ilminster Icons, we are dedicated to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for dancers of all ages and skill levels. Our dance school offers a wide range of classes, including ballet, tap, Acro, and Cheerleading and Theatre Classes. We are proud to be registered members of The Dance School Company (TDSC), Acrobatic Arts, and the British Cheerleading Association (BCA). Whether you are looking to improve your technique, build confidence, or simply have fun, our experienced instructors are here to help you reach your dance goals.
Age Guidance for Dance Classes
Ballet & Tap:
- Pre-Primary: Age 2.5+
- Primary: Age 3.5+
- Grade 1: Age 6+
Modern Jazz (Performance Squad):
- Primary (MINIS): Age 4+ (Reception/Year 1)
- Grade 1 (Juniors): Age 5+ (Year 1/Year 2)
- Grade 2 (Performance): Age 7+ (Year 3+)
Acrobatic Arts:
- Primary : Age 4+ (Complete beginners)
- Level 1+ : Assessed by the teacher during the trial and placed at the appropriate level. Progression is individualised.
Important Information:
We adhere to the guidelines set forth by The Dance School Company, which form the basis of our syllabus. Each class is designed to be developmentally appropriate and safe for the specified age group. These guidelines ensure the safety and suitability of dance activities and performances for our students. Compliance with these guidelines is essential to maintain our license and insurance.
Throughout the term, we continually assess students to ensure they are in the appropriate class. If we believe a change is necessary, we will discuss it with you. This reassessment is not a reflection of your child’s ability but rather our commitment to maximising their potential in a safe and suitable environment.

Acro
We are proud to offer classes based on the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus, ensuring that our students develop their acrobatic skills safely and progressively.
Our Acrobatic Arts classes focus on strength, flexibility, and technique, providing comprehensive training for dancers of all levels. Join us today to experience the thrill of mastering acrobatic movements with precision and grace!
Acro dance is a dynamic style that combines classical dance techniques with acrobatic elements. Known for its athleticism and unique choreography, Acro dance blends dance and acrobatics seamlessly. The intricate moves, including cartwheels, handsprings, chest stands, and hand walking, enhance coordination, flexibility, and balance with each session.
Ballet & Tap
We offer ballet and tap classes for dancers aged 3 and up, providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for all abilities.
Our ballet classes focus on grace, technique, and strength, introducing young dancers to fundamental concepts such as body alignment, posture, and basic ballet vocabulary. Through engaging exercises, our experienced instructors help students develop flexibility, coordination, and musicality.
Tap classes, characterized by their lively and rhythmic nature, teach dancers to create percussive sounds with metal plates on their shoes. Students learn various tap steps, combinations, and improvisation techniques, enhancing their coordination and musicality.
Whether your child is a beginner or has previous dance experience, our dedicated instructors ensure a supportive and inspiring learning environment. We follow the TDSC Syllabus and offer yearly exams when students are ready.
Modern/Jazz
Modern Jazz is a dynamic and innovative dance form that seamlessly blends a variety of styles, including ballet, contemporary, and hip-hop. Renowned for its fast-paced movements, intricate footwork, and high-energy performances, Modern Jazz offers an exhilarating experience for dancers.
Our students have the unique opportunity to take exams with the prestigious TDSC, ensuring they receive top-notch training and recognition. Additionally, they can showcase their skills and passion in various performances throughout the year, celebrating their progress and achievements.
Our Performance Squad is integrated into our Modern/Jazz classes and participation is entirely optional. While you can simply join our classes to enjoy the fun and excitement of our lessons, those who choose to be part of the Performance Squad will have the opportunity to participate in multiple performances at local events and South West carnivals throughout the year.
BCA Cheerdance
Cheerdancing is an exciting blend of cheerleading, dance, and gymnastics, creating a vibrant and energetic performance style. Originating from traditional cheerleading routines, cheerdancing incorporates high-energy jumps, dynamic tumbling, impressive lifts, and spirited cheers. This unique combination not only enhances athleticism and coordination but also fosters team spirit and confidence.
Our cheerdancing classes provide a supportive environment where students can develop their skills, showcase their creativity, and experience the thrill of performing at various events and competitions.

Ilminster Icons Theatre School
Do you have a budding performer at home eager to learn more about the world of acting and musical theatre, or simply looking to boost their confidence and have fun? We offer engaging classes tailored to different age groups. For our youngest stars, Ellybeans (ages 4-6) meets from 17:00 to 17:30, focusing on sensory fun and exploring their bodies and emotions through music, games, and storytelling. Mad Hatters (ages 7-11) takes place from 17:45 to 18:30, where children can experience acting through song, script work, characterization, mime, and musical theatre. For our older students, Crew (ages 11-18) runs from 18:30 to 19:30, offering technical training in production and performance, exploring different theatrical styles, developing acting skills, gaining industry knowledge, and preparing for auditions.
